Damian Lewis as Steve McQueen Redux

Skipping my review of Billions Season 3, Episode 9, “Icebreaker” this week due to a late night spent with a passel of tweens at the Taylor Swift concert. My girl’s first big concert!

In lieu of my hoity toity ramblings on the meaning of it all, and since the show itself brought up the subject, here’s another revisit to a perennial favorite around here: Damian as Steve McQueen. Chances grow slimmer by the day that this project will ever get made, but it sure was nice to imagine! If you missed the connection to Billions, here’s a gif reminding you of Krakow and Bobby’s oh-so-adorable nicknames for each other.

Bullitt is the story of a San Francisco police lieutenant played by Steve McQueen. See, even Krakow sees a resemblance.

How did Damian Lewis Become Soames Forsyte? *UPDATED*

We talked about how Damian Lewis became Dick Winters earlierĀ here. Dick Winters is not onlyĀ the first “American” that Damian brought to life on screen, but it is also the roleĀ that made him an internationally known actor. Accordingly, after his big successĀ inĀ Band of Brothers,Ā Damian was offered rolesĀ in Hollywood, including a part in Black Hawk Down which heĀ turned down to do… Well…Ā The Forsyte Saga!Ā

When asked in an interview withĀ Now MagazineĀ in 2001 about why he turned down Black Hawk Down, Damian Lewis jokingly says:

ā€œIā€™d had enough of soldiering. Out of a cast of about 10,000, there was only one woman inĀ Band of Brothers. So for my next job I wanted girls in it. I wanted the smell of sweet perfume wafting out from make up each morning.ā€ šŸ˜€ Continue reading “How did Damian Lewis Become Soames Forsyte? *UPDATED*”

Damian Lewis as Steve McQueen, Revisited

The most bittersweet thing about fandom is that for all the imagining you do, visualizing your fav in roles you’d love to see him in and even writing fanfic (if only in your head) putting him into new and interesting situations no writer on the payroll ever thought of, chances are pretty high that your dream for your boo will never come to pass. There’s a machine at work making projects happen or not happen, a machine that responds to (or shrinks beneath the weight of) a lot more stresses than just the wishes of ardent fans. So, it has perhaps come to pass with the subject of this post. Since I first wrote this, chances have possibly becomeĀ slimmer that the powers that be will ever get their requisite ducks in a row to make this happen. Still, Damian Lewis as Steve McQueen is a pretty picture, one not easy for a fan to let go of. Continue reading “Damian Lewis as Steve McQueen, Revisited”

If it was up to us, Damian Lewis would need to work 24/7 :)

I told you earlierĀ aboutĀ how many blog posts come out of our casual conversations within the team. This is yet another one.

Being the two huge Harry Potter fans that we are, Bookworm and I areĀ talking about the NEW Harry Potter playĀ with now adult Harry & Co. and focusing on Harry’s son Albus Severus the other day. And just because we really want our favorite actor to have a part in our favorite fiction,Ā I come up with the idea that, being red head and all, why not DamianĀ play the adult Ron Weasley? And Bookworm comesĀ up with a muchĀ better idea that I will not spoil here – she should write on that Harry PotterĀ character she believes Damian would kill in! So… you get the idea… Going deep in conversation about roles we think Damian Lewis would be PERFECT for is a favorite pastime in our team and our typical joke is if it had been up to us, the poor guy would have to run from set to set and set to stage and back forĀ 24/7 and not have a minute to spare for his family or for his sleep or for himself…Ā So… Thank God it is not up to us! Why Damian Lewis should play Steve McQueen (UPDATE)

UPDATE: Cannes Film Festival 2015 starts this week and with it comes the possibility of learning important particulars about a certain dramatic feature length biopic on the life of Steve McQueen. We already know that a documentary about Steve McQueen’s experiences filming the racing film Le Mans is being screened at Cannes. We can only imagine that an announcement about a new biopic, still in the infancy of development, if there is an announcement at all, will be made around the screening of The Man and Le Mans.

I posted a while back about why Damian Lewis would make the perfect Steve McQueen. There’s no end to the visual evidence in support of my argument, so I’ve found more to share. Continue reading “Why Damian Lewis should play Steve McQueen (UPDATE)”
