Billions on Showtime, Episode 12: The Conversation
May I just say I will miss Sunday nights so much? Here’s my typical Billions Sunday: Watch at 10pm and live tweet. Take notes. Watch for a second timeĀ at 11pm. Take more notes. Sit down at midnight and start to write. Go to bed as the sun rises. ItĀ sounds crazy, doesn’t it? Sitting down to write for hours as if the world is waiting for my recap to be published… But it is not that. ItĀ is the thrill. I just LOVE the ride.Ā Billions is such a pleasant puzzle to think about and write on. Standing Ovation for all brilliant minds behind and in front of the camera for the last 12 weeks! And special thanks go to my husbandĀ for bearing with me for the last couple of months and letting me sleep until noon on Mondays.

Billions ep 11 : Magical Thinking
Master of reading the charts and anticipating risk, master of seeing the long shot and taking the short road to get there, Difference Maker Bobby Axelrod has had a slip in judgement. He hasn’t seen what every other manager and analyst, “to a man”, has seen, and by refusing to budge in the face of the majority opinion, he proceeds to lose. And lose big. Axe Capital is on the brink of losing upwards of $800 million simply due to Bobby’s stubborn and ill-conceived refusal to see the numbers he’s always been able to see. But was it a refusal to see the big picture or an incapacity? Is Axe losing his wizard skills or did he subconsciously sabotage himself? These are the questions up for exploration in this penultimate episode of the series.
Billions on Showtime, Episode 11: Magical Thinking
Well, night is young and magical for some and not so muchĀ for others in Billions Episode 11 Magical Thinking.Ā
Mafee sends in Wags to ask for permission to talk to Axe about BioLance that will make a special announcement in nine minutes about whether the FDA is giving approval for their diabetes type II drug. All the research points to the approval being a coin flip and Mafee, who usually sleeps like a bear, is losing sleep on it. He can pare their position right now just before the announcement and they can still make 10%. But they will lose 400 million should the FDA deny approval. Axe is not havingĀ any of it. 10% could be good for a benchmark fund which Axe Capital is NOT. They are already in BioLance where the win is. He fires Mafee on the spot. Billions on Showtime, Episode 10: Quality of Life
We have hadĀ ourĀ “educated” speculation last couple of weeksĀ and we now have it all out inĀ Episode 10 Quality of Life:Ā Axe has known Donnie was sick.Ā He sees something is seriously wrong with him in the meeting where Donnie does not see the matrix and follows him to the men’s room.
“Cancer.” “Yeah.” “Shit.” “Pancreatic.” “Shit.” I would probably say “Double scoop of shit” Wags-style. Axe will make sure Donnie sees theĀ top oncologist in the country. HeĀ should put himself together and see AxeĀ by the end of the day.
We learn Donnie was closeted until he met Walter. HeĀ feels guilty about his wife soĀ gives her all he has and starts back atĀ zero with a plan to make the money his kids would need forĀ a comfortable future in 10 years. Alas, life intervenes. He wants his kidsĀ to live a comfortable life. Axe offersĀ “rewards of paradise” on earth: Ā 40 million dollars pre-tax. But there is a downside. His last months will not be his own. Donnie is inĀ unless he is going to jail.Ā Axe assures him lawyers will take care of that part. Continue reading “Billions on Showtime, Episode 10: Quality of Life”
