Throwback Thursday to Damian Lewis in Romeo & Juliet *UPDATED*

capuletsToday’s throwback takes us to, probably, the most famous star-crossed lovers in history… Oh, no, sorry, I am not talking about Carrie and Brody 😀

Damian Lewis is no stranger to Shakespeare. He played Romeo in Birmingham Rep’s Romeo and Juliet, and Hamlet in Hamlet in the Open Air Theatre, Regent’s Park, London in 1993 and 1994, respectively, as a fresh graduate of Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Then he did his Broadway debut as Laertes to Ralph Fiennes’ Hamlet in Almeida Theatre’s production in 1995. Damian also performed as Posthumous in Cymbeline and Don John in Much Ado About Nothing with the Royal Shakespeare Company. He also brought to life a lovely Benedick on BBC’s Shakespeare Retold: Much Ado About Nothing. Damian took on the role of Lord Capulet in a 2013 big screen adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. Damian kicked off Shakespeare’s 450th Birthday Celebrations in 2014 at Guildhall Library reading the great man’s first five sonnets and he gave a wonderful performance of Mark Antony’s “Friends, Romans, Countrymen” speech from Julius Ceasar  in The Guardian‘s Shakespeare Solos in 2016. Spy Wars with Damian Lewis: Here Is All We Know About Damian’s First Factual TV Program

“Spy craft is incredibly low-fi. There are exotic words like ‘dead drop’ and ‘brush pass’ but it literally means you waking into a supermarket with the same Sainsbury’s carrier bag as me and us leaving with each other’s bags – you’ve seen it in a thousand thriller movies.” – Damian Lewis

The long wait is over! Spy Wars with Damian Lewis is coming to the Smithsonian Channel, a joint venture between CBS and the Smithsonian Institute on March 22! Smithsonian Channel may be part of your cable subscription, and if it is not, you can watch it as part of your Hulu Live, You Tube TV subscription. You can see different ways of how to watch Smithsonian Channel programming here. Oh, and, you can watch the first episode here now –  courtesy of Smithsonian Channel!

A+E Networks and Royal Television Society (RTS) jointly held a special screening of Spy Wars followed by a Q&A with the brains behind the project before the series premiered on History Channel UK last fall. And thanks to Tsvetanka, a true friend and a wonderful fan, attending the screening and recording a good chunk of the Q & A for us, as well as Damian appearing and talking about Spy Wars on Chris Evans Show I know what to talk about when to talk about Spy Wars with Damian Lewis.

Damian is my fellow Aquarian. Firstly, we are looking forward to the premiere of Billions Season 5 on Showtime! The series has already become the premium network’s second biggest show ever after Homeland and guess what — there is only one lead actor that has played in Showtime’s two biggest shows! 😀 Damian Lewis:Spy Wars, Damian’s first experience in factual TV, is coming to the Smithsonian Channel, a joint venture between Showtime and the Smithsonian Institute, sometime this year. Damian and Helen hand in hand at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards, November 24, 2019

It is no secret we adore these love birds and we are extremely pleased to end the year, exactly like we did in 20152016, 2017,  and 2018 with our favorite Damian & Helen moments of 2019!

Well, it is obviously not easy to be two ridiculously talented and busy actors living together and raising a family. I remember Damian telling us at Cheltenham Literature Festival that the problem never goes away:

“When you’re two actors living together, you’re always asked to do work away from your home, so you just have to decide which ones are important enough to go and do away from home and try to spend the rest of the time together.”

And that is exactly what Damian and Helen have done in 2019. Continue reading “Top Damian Lewis Moments 2019: Hand in Hand”
