Throwback Thursday to Damian Lewis at the 2012 Emmy Awards

“I don’t really believe in judging art. But I thought I’d show up just in case. Turned out alright.” – Damian Lewis

We had Prime Time Emmy Awards Ceremony last Sunday. I have not been watching for the last several years since there was no nominee, a TV show or an actor, that I would root for. But the event marks such a personal moment in my life that I would love to take you all back to 2012 Emmy Awards and re-live Homeland‘s BIG MOMENT!

Well, it all starts with the nomination. Homeland scores BIG in Prime Time Emmy  nominations  – it is not just a record number of nominations for Showtime and but also the highest for any freshman series that year!

Entertainment Weekly asks Damian how he feels about his nomination just after the Emmy nominations are announced.

“I’m really thrilled. Over the moon. I was asleep. So I was just getting some extra zzzzs and I woke up with my phone buzzing next to my head.”

Marry, Shag, Banish – Damian Lewis
Characters Version

It’s game time! Growing up I loved watching 70’s/80’s game shows. Remember these catch phrases?

“Come on down!”
“Survey says…”
“No whammies, no whammies, no whammies…and STOP!”
“I’d like to buy a vowel.”

And I’m in heaven with the recent revivals of Match Game, Celebrity Family Feud, and To Tell the Truth. I even DVR old Match Game episodes from time to time to watch my favorite panelists Brett Somers and Charles Nelson Reilly like I did when I watched reruns as a child.

If it’s a game, you can count me in! I often host Bunco round-robins, hold Whiz Spades tournaments, and throw Mexican Train Dominoes events.  I am no emcee–I have to be in on the action and playing.  Games are great fun, whether spending family time together or as an added bonus to your dinner party with friends. Even drinking games like Never Have I Ever and Marry, Shag, Kill are hysterical to play.

Which brings me to Marry, Shag, Kill (our version is Marry, Shag, Banish to an Island).

The Radleys Is Coming Soon: Here’s All We Know About Damian Lewis’ New Movie

“Your instincts are wrong. Animals rely on instincts for their daily survival, but we are not beasts. We are not lions or sharks or vultures. We are civilized, and civilization only works if instincts are suppressed. So do your bit for society and ignore those dark desires inside you.” – The Abstainer’s Handbook (second edition), p. 54

The lucky ones among us were able to see The Radleys at its World Premiere at Edinburgh International Film Festival on August 20. The good news is that the long wait will be over for the rest of us – and just in time for the Halloween! The movie’s distributor Lionsgate tweeted and invited us to meet The Radleys with a new official trailer along with a U.S. release date. The movie will be at select movie theaters, on digital and on demand on October 4. In the UK, The Radleys will be released in movie theaters and on Sky Cinema and NOW on October 18.

Well, I “met” The Radleys more than a year ago when we first found out that Damian would star in a supernatural black comedy adapted from Matt Haig’s Sunday Times and New York Times Bestseller “The Radleys”. I listened to the audio book (read by Toby Leonard Moore aka Bryan Connerty from Billions!) first and then read the paperback. Throwback Thursday to Damian Lewis at Band of Brothers Boot Camp

‘It’s very authentic, dripping in sincerity, there’s nothing sensational about it. It had a docu-drama feel to it which people responded to. –Damian Lewis on Band of Brothers

bandofbrothers

We blogged earlier about how a 29-year old British actor Damian Lewis got cast to play all-American WWII hero Dick Winters as well as the deft and the charisma with which Damian Lewis came to immortalize Dick Winters on small screen. However, we still have a black box between the casting and the shoot: How did Damian Lewis TRANSFORM into Dick Winters?

DLDW

Well… Once he gets the part, the two Hollywood giants Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks leave the room and Tony To, the executive producer, asks: “Hey Damian, how’d you like to go to boot camp in March?”

Ha! The boot camp… It is, in fact, what FILLS the black box I’ve been talking about… The Transformation, quoting Damian himself, from “a rice pudding” to a “celery stalk”

Band of Brothers at 23: Revisiting Dick Winters

Damianista’s note: Band of Brothers is 23 years old. Currahee!

As one of the most iconic mini-series of all times, Band of Brothers may have turned 23 but it has never got old. People are still in love with Damian Lewis’ Major Winters and his Easy Company and thousands of families and friends enjoy a Band of Brothers marathon (multiple times!) every year.

To celebrate the the mini-series, HBO had Roger Bennett host an official Band of Brothers 12-episode podcast that followed the Easy Company’s footsteps from Normandy to the Eagle’s Nest, episode by episode, with insight from Tom Hanks as well as actors who brought the members of Easy Company to life  – including Ron Livingston, Donny Wahlberg, Matthews Settle, Scott Grimes and our beloved Damian Lewis.

Please hear Bennett’s Band of Brothers podcast episode with Damian Lewis below…
