Band of Brothers at 17: Before and After 9/11

onecollageSeventeen years ago on September 9, 2001, a documentary-like mini-series tribute to D-Day and to WWII, Band of Brothers, aired its two first episodes. Two days later that same year the world turned upside down. It was very difficult for any entertainment to be very entertaining in the days after September 11, 2001. If there were people who looked at ratings, advertising revenue, critical reviews and other such metrics to gauge the success of a series, chances are that they, like the rest of us, were distracted by other headlines. On this anniversary, I wanted to examine how Band of Brothers was perceived by critics, before and after September 11, 2001.

Revisiting Dick Winters

On the 17th anniversary of Band of Brothers, my post will be a revisit to my second post on this blog, “Before Nicholas Brody, there was Dick Winters”. Seems the love for Band of Brothers has never abated in anyone’s minds and the honor of portraying a true American hero lives on in Damian’s mind too. He tweeted on Winters’ death anniversary:

From Festivals to Sports to Charity: We Know What Damian Lewis Did This Summer :D

Happy Labor Day! It means this is the last chance for most of us to have one last long weekend before the summer ends. But it also means Billions Season 4 shoot is starting in New York, well, tomorrow!!!! It goes without saying we will follow the shoot to the best of our ability and write about our hopes, wishes and fantasies for Season 4 in the coming weeks and months.

But, today, we will talk about Damian’s summer, the second in a row he has enjoyed fully!

Damian constantly worked all summers between 2011 while he was shooting Homeland to 2016 when they were starting the Billions shoot in summer. So, when asked by a fan at The Goat stage door back in May 2017 about what he would be doing between The Goat and Billions, whose shoot would not start until September, he responded promptly: Continue reading “From Festivals to Sports to Charity: We Know What Damian Lewis Did This Summer :D”

Marry, Shag, Banish – Damian Lewis
Characters Version

It’s game time! Growing up I loved watching 70’s/80’s game shows. Remember these catch phrases?

“Come on down!”
“Survey says…”
“No whammies, no whammies, no whammies…and STOP!”
“I’d like to buy a vowel.”

And I’m in heaven with the recent revivals of Match Game, Celebrity Family Feud, and To Tell the Truth. I even DVR old Match Game episodes from time to time to watch my favorite panelists Brett Somers and Charles Nelson Reilly like I did when I watched reruns as a child.

If it’s a game, you can count me in! I often host Bunco round-robins, hold Whiz Spades tournaments, and throw Mexican Train Dominoes events.  I am no emcee–I have to be in on the action and playing.  Games are great fun, whether spending family time together or as an added bonus to your dinner party with friends. Even drinking games like Never Have I Ever and Marry, Shag Kill are hysterical to play.

Which brings me to Marry, Shag, Kill (our version is Marry, Shag, Banish to an Island).
