Fan Fun with Damian Lewis is Calling All Fans! *SECOND CALL*

Hi everyone!

First things first: Thank you so much to all of you that responded to our first call about “Fan Stories” project. We have received many emails from you saying that you want to contribute and, besides, we have already received ten wonderful stories. Please keep them coming!

Now to our Second Call!

We are launching a brand new project on Fan Fun with Damian Lewis and we would LOVE you to be a part of it!

How did you become a Damian Lewis fan? THAT IS the question 🙂

We believe each fan has a special and personal story of how she or he found out about Damian and ultimately became a fan. For early fans, it was about Damian’s fantastic portrayal of Dick Winters. For some of us, it was Brody, and for others, it was Charlie Crews or Soames Forsyte or another character Damian brought to life on screen or on stage. It may well be that you have a story that we cannot even imagine!

We believe these personal stories would make a wonderful series of posts and give us more opportunity for interaction as well as strengthen our feeling of community.

So if you would love to write about how you became a Damian fan, you can write to allaboutdamian@gmail.com and let us know you want to contribute to the project and email your story to that address when it is done.

We plan to publish the stories starting early 2017 so there is ample time to get your thoughts together and type them. It would be wonderful if we could have the stories sent to us by early December. That would give us a month or so to prepare them for publication.

We HOPE you like the “fan stories” project and will participate. And please share our post with your friends who you think could be interested.

The more the merrier!

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Damian Lewis as Steve McQueen, Revisited

The most bittersweet thing about fandom is that for all the imagining you do, visualizing your fav in roles you’d love to see him in and even writing fanfic (if only in your head) putting him into new and interesting situations no writer on the payroll ever thought of, chances are pretty high that your dream for your boo will never come to pass. There’s a machine at work making projects happen or not happen, a machine that responds to (or shrinks beneath the weight of) a lot more stresses than just the wishes of ardent fans. So, it has perhaps come to pass with the subject of this post. Since I first wrote this, chances have possibly become slimmer that the powers that be will ever get their requisite ducks in a row to make this happen. Still, Damian Lewis as Steve McQueen is a pretty picture, one not easy for a fan to let go of. Continue reading “Damian Lewis as Steve McQueen, Revisited”

Book Review: Meeting Damian Lewis

Need a suggestion for some summer reading on the beach? Here’s my review of Christine Wilson’s Meeting Damian Lewis. Enjoy!

Never touch your idols: the gilding will stick to your fingers.
Il ne faut pas toucher aux idoles: la dorure en reste aux mains.
― Gustave Flaubert, Madame Bovary

How I love when art gets meta: when a writer or artist has the self-awareness and genuine capacity to make fun of themselves. That’s what we mean when we say the writing is “honest”. There’s no agenda to convince or win over the reader, just a need to show, everything, even the warty not-attractive bits.

With her first novel, Meeting Damian Lewis, Christine Wilson has succeeded beautifully in that effort.

Number 5

Now that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is upon and I eagerly await my script of it to devour, I am taking a look back at which Harry Potter Character I thought it would be fun to see Damian playing.

For those who have not read all the books, this blog contains spoilers for the Harry Potter series.

You may have gathered from Damianista’s 24/7 blog that we give some serious thought to what roles we think Damian would be suited to, or give free reign to our imaginations and come up with roles we would really like to see him play.

If there is any way to link Damian (no matter how small) we’ll do that too. For example this thought was inspired by the announcement of the Harry Potter play. If you happen to read fan fiction you will find many which have Albus (Harry’s middle child) and Scorpius Malfoy (Narcissa Malfoy’s grandson) as best friends, a way of trying to learn from the past and move forward given the differences between the Weasley/Potter clans and the Malfoys. Damian’s lovely wife, Helen McCrory, has already been in the Harry Potter films as Narcissa. Continue reading “Number 5”
